Just the Start

Welcome to the introductory publication of the Friends of Ryan newsletter. The intent of the newsletter is to keep Alumni and friends updated on a monthly basis on topics related to Archbishop Ryan and the Friends of Ryan.

First of all, let me take a minute to introduce ourselves. In 2020, the Archbishop Ryan Board of Limited Jurisdiction identified a need to bring together the Alumni and create a fund-raising entity specifically tasked with raising funds through grants and events for tuition assistance and capital improvements that flowed directly to Archbishop Ryan and its students. A non-profit 501(c)(3) organization was incorporated as the Friends of Ryan. The Friends of Ryan Board consists of fellow volunteer Alumni spanning several decades across Archbishop Ryan’s history and supported by the Ryan Ambassadors.

At the same time that the Friends of Ryan was incorporated, the world experienced the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many of you, the Friends of Ryan adjusted to the disruption in daily life and worked diligently remotely to build out an infrastructure to support the goal of raising funds for tuition assistance and capital improvements to Archbishop Ryan High School.

As the pandemic restrictions subsided in late spring, the Friends of Ryan hit the ground running by hosting the Summer Social at the Seaport Pier, the Annual Golf Outing and we are on track for another successful Winter Social. Additionally, the Friends of Ryan, along with the Archbishop Ryan administration, several key State Representatives and State Senators was able to obtain a state grant for 2.5 million dollars for the fields of Ryan.

As the title suggests, we are just getting started and we look forward to your support and working together as one Alumni to make Archbishop Ryan the best school in the Archdiocese. Friends of Ryan Awarded $2.5 Million Dollar State Grant

With the assistance of State Representatives Ed Neilson and Mike Driscoll along with State Senator John Sabatina, the Friends of Ryan has been awarded a $2.5 million grant through state funding through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program to improve the Archbishop Ryan campus.

Many thanks to our local State Representative Ed Neilson and Mike Driscoll, State Senator John Sabatina for advancing the funding. Congratulations to the Ryan Team who worked to make this a reality with a special call out to Lisa Boyd '90 and Mary Anne Benner '74 for spearheading the project.

This is a huge win for the AR community and our local area as a whole. We will continue to keep you updated through the Friends of Ryan website, www.friendsofryanalumni.org.

The Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC) has a New Look

Through the great effort of Archbishop Ryan High School staff, students, and the team at BLOCS, we have customized the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC) materials specifically for Ryan Alumni. In addition, we restructured our web-based and social media content to reduce confusion to, hopefully, encourage individuals and organizations to utilize this great program to help the school in giving financial aid to students in need.

Do you pay a minimum of $5,000 in PA state taxes per year? And instead of the state making the decision as to how these funds are distributed to state programs, would you like to have the ability to direct these funds to Archbishop Ryan to be used directly for tuition assistance for our students in need? With a 2-year commitment, using the minimum of $5,000 PA tax liability as an example, you could direct $10,000 directly to Archbishop Ryan to pay a student’s tuition and your out-of-pocket cost would only be $630 over two years.

We understand that the tax details can be confusing, but the process and application is simple. Our team is committed and ready to work with you or directly with you or your accountant to describe the process and answer any questions. Ready to take the leap to help assist Archbishop Ryan students reach their goals, select the link below and our team will contact you directly.

If you are interested in participating in the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC), visit the EITC section of the Friends of Ryan website www.friendsofryanalumni.org/eitc-ostc and select the Interested button. By providing your contact information, the Friends of Ryan will reach out for initial discussions and to answer any questions.
